The Folk Art of Mexico
Classes will be learning about various Folk Art traditions of Mexico, such as Huichol Yarn Painting, Oaxacan Wood Carvings, and Metal Tooling. The lessons are integrated with students' classroom studies of North America for this year's International Festival.
Connections:Literacy: We are learning and using new vocabulary! Check out the Word Wall! We will also be reading culturally relevant literature, such as Dream Carver by Diana Cohn, Why the Sun and the Moon Live in the Sky by Elphinstone Dayrell, and The Tree That Rains by Emery Bernhard.

The Art of Greg Mike
Students will be learning about American artist, Greg Mike! They will work with shape and color to create their own Greg Mike inspired characters. They will learn how art can be used to convey a message, and will create affirming messages for their characters!

The Depths of the Rainforest: Using Space in Art & Henri Rousseau
We are traveling to the rainforest to study how artists create DEPTH in 2D drawings. We are using the SPACE of our papers to create a rainforest LANDSCAPE with a FOREGROUND, MIDDLE GROUND, and BACKGROUND. We are applying the following techniques in our rainforest art:
