GRADE 3 ART!
Egyptian Art: History Preserved
We will be exploring the wonders of Ancient Egypt! Students will learn about the Great Pyramids, the Sphinx, King Tut, hieroglyphics, mummies and more! We will focus on the unique Egyptian style of depicting the human figure. Students will reflect these special characteristics in their own Egyptian-style portraits! We'll also try writing our names in hieroglyphics!

MASKS OF AFRICA
Students will be learning about the tradition of masks in African culture, in conjunction with their classroom studies of Africa for the upcoming International Festival. They will learn about the significance and common characteristics of masks created and worn by a variety of African tribes. They will create their own mask designs, applying symmetry, as well as positive and negative space!

Students are spending some time on the first ELEMENT OF ART ~ LINE! They are identifying a variety of LINES, pointing out LINES in art, and creating a variety of LINES in their own art! They are having a blast playing the Line Game with their teams, and will be applying their skills further in the creation of an abstract design using lines and the letters of their names!

Creating Symmetry: Mask Designs & Chinese New Year
We are studying SYMMETRY and ASYMMETRY! We are applying SYMMETRY in our own art by creating SYMMETRICAL mask designs using COLLAGE techniques! We have explored connections with the intricate Dragons and Lions of traditional Chinese New Year celebration dances!
