GRADE 2 ART
ART TOUR OF EUROPE: ITALY, ENGLAND, SCOTLAND, POLAND
We learning about significant art, artistic traditions, and artists of the European countries of Italy, England, Scotland, and Poland! Our art lessons are integrated with the students' classroom international studies!
- Ms. Sherron's & Ms. Smith's classes are learning about Leonardo Da Vinci, Italy's most renowned artist. They are creating plans for inventions, AND painting self-portraits!
- Ms. Beacham's & Ms. Wilkinson's classes are creating illuminated letters in the style of those in the beautiful manuscripts of from the Middle Ages of England and Scotland!
- Ms. Wilbanks' class is studying wycinanki, traditional Polish paper-cut art. They are creating their own wycinanki designs!
Clay Hand-Building: Pinch Pots!

WEAVING!
Students will be introduced to the tradition of WEAVING! They will create layered paper weavings, with a focus on the technique, as well as how LINE and PATTERN are applied in creating!

LINES!
Students are spending some time on the first ELEMENT OF ART ~ LINE! They are identifying a variety of LINES, pointing out LINES in art, and creating a variety of LINES in their own art! They are having a blast playing the Line Game with their teams, and will be applying their skills further, demonstrating an understanding of line MOVEMENT in the creation of a Seascape collage!

The new school year is upon us! What an exciting time for our young DDES artists! This month, students will review Art Room procedures and expectations. They will also get their ARTful journey underway with collaborative lessons that exercise their imaginations, as well as build their problem-solving and communication skills!

The Art of Africa
We are answering some important questions while exploring the continent!

We are creating drawings of animals from Africa in the tradition of STYLIZED African Art! Our animals are drawn using GEOMETRIC SHAPES and our art includes colorful PATTERNS!
Next, we are studying ADINKRA SYMBOLS and their use by the ASHANTi people of Ghana, West Africa to create PATTERNS on TEXTILES! We are using the stamping method to create our own ADINKRA PATTERNS!
